Live Topping

Cryogenic Tanks are double walled tanks with the annular space filled with expanded Perlite as insulation material. Over the years, some tanks experience formation of voids, as the perlite settles, which results in the appearance of cold spots on the surface of the outer tank.

Keltech, a leading perlite insulation service provider globally, has the required knowhow to live fill fresh expanded perlite into the tank to fill up the voids to eliminate these cold spots. This operation is carried out under stringent controlled procedures which have been developed by overseas experts with several years’ experience in this operation and Keltech technicians are specially trained to follow the entire operation sequently adhering to the highest health and safety requirements.

• Ascertain the level of Perlite inside the tank
• Estimate the approximate volume of Perlite required for topping up of the tank
• Preliminary inspection to determine existing Perlite Levels in the tanks include a detailed study of the Tank drawings, Thermographic Imaging, level survey, Dip Test of the existing levels

Quality checks are indispensable processes to ensure flawless operation. Tests are conducted in compliance with Perlite Institute / ASTM / BSEN standards. Loose density, packed density, particle size, moisture content, thermal conductivity and organic matter are tested.
